Amitsexual is a sexual orientation characterized by losing sexual attraction or arousal toward sexual acts over time.

An amitsexual individual may initially feel sexually attracted to someone or interested in sexual activity, but as time passes - or after engaging in sexual acts - their attraction or arousal gradually fades or disappears altogether. This change is not necessarily caused by their partner, relationship problems, or trauma; it is simply an inherent aspect of how their sexuality functions.

For some amitsexual individuals, this loss of attraction may occur shortly after developing it, while for others it may take weeks, months, or even years. Some may experience repeated cycles of gaining and losing attraction, while others may find that their sexual interest fades permanently once it’s gone.

Amitsexuality may overlap with identities on the asexual spectrum, such as graysexuality or demisexuality, since it involves a reduced or fluctuating experience of sexual attraction. However, the defining feature of amitsexuality is the diminishing of attraction over time, rather than the rarity or conditional nature of attraction itself.

Because of their shifting or fading attraction, some amitsexual individuals may not feel motivated to pursue or maintain sexual relationships and may prefer romantic, emotional, or platonic connections instead.

While research and recognition of amitsexuality are still developing, the term provides a useful way for people to describe their unique experience with attraction and arousal, emphasizing that sexuality can change not only in type or intensity, but also over time within the same relationship or context.
