Lesboy is an identity for an individual who in some way identifies as a boy/man that is gay/queer for women (lesbian). It can include:

  • an individual who is cusper/evenic between transgender man and a cisgender butch lesbian.
  • an individual who is cusper/evenic between (lesbian) transgender woman and gender non-conforming cis man.
  • a cross-aligned lesbian, such as a man-aligned/solarian girl or a woman-aligned/lunarian boy.
  • a multigender individual or an individual who otherwise identifies as male and female simultaneously (girlboy) and feels attraction to women.
  • an individual who is genderfluid and identifies as a lesbian, even when they are male.
  • a centrigender individual experiencing a gender in between fiaspec and miaspec while femaric.
  • a lesbiangender, sapphicgender, lesbiagender, or sapphogender man or masculenby/enboy.
  • anyone else who is in some way a boy/man and feels their attraction to women is gay/queer.

The woman counterpart is turigirl.

Etymology

"Lesboy" comes from "les-" for lesbian, and the word "boy."

History

Lesboys have been a documented part of the lesbian community for decades, especially lesboys who are cuspers between transgender men and butch lesbians.[3] Many historic he/him and butch lesbians would likely be described as lesboys in the modern day. For example, historic butch lesbian Leslie Feinberg wrote of the fine line between transmasculinity and lesbianism on multiple occasions.[4] Stormé DeLarverie, the Black butch lesbian whose scuffle with police started the Stonewall Rebellion in 1969, was a butch he/him lesbian and drag king who also performed as a man for portions of his life,[5] and who was referred to and identified as a "gentleman" at multiple points. As such, he may be considered a lesbian man.[6]

The specific shortening of "lesboy," however, is newer than the culture of lesbian boys and men. On October 8 2020, Beyond MOGAI Pride Flags posted a sapphic guy pride flag described as referring to, among others, "lesbian dudes."[7] Lesboy, specifically, first appeared online on December 20 2020 when Beyond MOGAI posted a lesboy pride flag.[1]

On September 3 2021 hikus-pride-flags on Tumblr posted a butch-boy pride flag for butch lesboys.[8] The same user posted a male lesbian flag on November 4 2021.[9]
