Onesexual

Onesexual flag by Fandom user Oneandonlyy

Onesexual is a sexual orientation on the asexual spectrum, where an individual can only experience sexual and/or romantic attraction to one person in their lifetime. They can find certain people or genders objectively attractive in an aesthetic sense, but they do not actually want anyone other than their one love in a romantic and/or sexual sense. Onesexual individuals would most likely identify themselves under the asexual umbrella, as their sexuality is reserved for the one person and they do not feel legitimate sexual desires or attraction to anyone else before or after meeting said person. The same may be applied to their romantic feelings.

These reserved feelings may (but not always) result in loneliness for the individual before finding their person or after if the relationship does not work out. It can be a very devastating blow, but onesexual individuals are still fully capable of living happy and fulfilled lives, even if not with the benefit of their one person by their side.

This identity cannot be paired with a multisexual identity such as bisexual or polysexual, as onesexual individuals are not capable of feeling sexual nor romantic attraction for anyone other than one person, therefore making them, in theory, 'asexual with one exception'.

Flag[]

The gray represents graysexuality, and the singular red stripe represents the romantic and/or sexual attraction to one person only. The flag was created by Fandom user Oneandonlyy on March 9th 2023.

History[]

The origins of this sexuality are unknown.

Preconceptions and discrimination[]

Onesexual individuals may feel invalidated as a consequence of other people's doubts and discrimination. The most common misconception surrounding this sexuality seems to be that onesexual individuals are all young, naïve and lacking experience in romantic relationships, and therefore mistaking their first feelings of attraction as the only ones they'll ever have. This misconception can be very damaging to a onesexual individual, and may cause them to feel pressured to engage in sexual and/or romantic relationships in spite of their lack of attraction for anyone other than their one love.
